WHY LML DURAMAX ENGINES FAIL AND HOW D&J SOLVES IT

When your LML Duramax fails, you need a replacement you can trust, not just another stock engine with the same weak points. Every D&J Precision Machine long block is completely disassembled, cleaned, inspected and precision machined before being rebuilt with new OEM-spec Tier 1 pistons and rings, new valves, bearings, thrust washers, lifters, valve springs and freeze plugs. The cylinder heads use an upgraded L5P top-hat valve stem seal design, and the crankshaft and camshaft are keyed for positive gear retention. The Precision Plus goes further with ARP head studs and Tier 1 MLS head gaskets to address common LML head gasket failure, an upgraded L5P oil cooler to help reduce the risk of piston cracking, and a pinned oil pump. Every engine is tested in-house before it ships.

  • Head Gasket Failure

A common failure point on the LML Duramax platform.

    The BD Difference

Tier 1 head gaskets on both builds, with ARP head studs added on the Precision Plus.

  • Piston Cracking

High oil temperatures increase the risk of piston cracking and related failure.

    The BD Difference

The Precision Plus uses an upgraded L5P oil cooler to help keep oil temperatures lower.

  • Valve Seal Failure

Factory valve stem seals can fail over time.

    The BD Difference

Both builds use an upgraded L5P top-hat valve stem seal design.

  • Crank & Cam Gear Slip

Factory pins can shear, letting the crank or cam gear move out of position.

    The BD Difference

Both builds use a keyed crankshaft and camshaft for positive gear retention.

What is the difference between the Essentials and Precision Plus long blocks?

Both are fully remanufactured with precision machining, new OEM-spec Tier 1 pistons and rings, new valves, upgraded L5P top-hat valve stem seals and a keyed crankshaft and camshaft. The Precision Plus adds ARP head studs with Tier 1 MLS head gaskets, an upgraded L5P oil cooler and a pinned oil pump, and includes rocker boxes and valve covers for a more complete package.

Which trucks do these engines fit?

Both long blocks fit 2011-2016 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500HD/3500HD trucks with the 6.6L LML Duramax.

What is a long block?

A long block includes the engine block, rotating assembly and cylinder heads with valvetrain, making it a more complete assembly than a short block.

Do these engines address the LML head gasket issue?

Both builds use Tier 1 head gaskets for reliable cylinder sealing. The Precision Plus adds ARP head studs and MLS head gaskets for increased clamping strength.

How are the engines tested?

Every engine is tested in-house on D&J Precision Machine's RMC ETS equipment before shipment, verifying cylinder compression and cooling system integrity. The Precision Plus test sequence also verifies oil pump pressure and volume.

What is a core charge?

A core charge is a refundable deposit you pay until you return your old engine (the core). Once we receive and inspect your core, the deposit is refunded. See the product page for details.

How long does installation take?

Installation takes approximately 19 hours for the Precision Plus and approximately 25 hours for the Essentials long block.

What is the warranty?

Both long blocks are covered by a 24-month / 100,000-mile parts warranty and a 24-month labor warranty.

What else should I buy with my long block?

We recommend the 1045830 Screamer Turbo or 848212-9002S stock LML turbo, the 1041459 Exhaust Manifold Kit, 1715522 remanufactured stock injectors and the 1050496 CP3 Conversion Kit. For the Essentials long block, we also recommend the 1041260 Duramax Flexplate.
