WHY TURBOCHARGERS FAIL AND HOW BD SOLVES IT

The 2013-2018 Ram 6.7L Cummins uses a Holset HE300VG variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). When it fails, the most direct solution is a stock replacement. Our remanufactured turbos are built to OE-or-better specifications and are available for both pickup and Cab & Chassis models, which have different mounting configurations. If your turbo has failed due to a bad actuator, we also offer standalone replacement electronic actuators to get you back on the road.

  • Low Boost & Loss of Power (P0299)

Often caused by a sticking VGT nozzle ring or a failing actuator.

    The BD Difference

The truck will feel sluggish and unable to build proper boost under load.

  • Loud Screeching or Whining

This sound from the engine bay is a classic symptom of failing turbo bearings or a compressor wheel contacting the housing, requiring immediate diagnosis.

    The BD Difference

A remanufactured stock replacement HE300VG turbo with fresh bearings eliminates the noise and restores smooth, quiet operation.

  • Blue or White Exhaust Smoke

Typically indicates failed internal turbo seals, allowing engine oil to leak into the intake or exhaust and burn off.

    The BD Difference

Replacing the turbo with a remanufactured stock replacement or Screamer unit restores proper seals and stops the oil consumption.

  • Failed Electronic Actuator

The actuator controls the VGT system and is a common failure point.

    The BD Difference

A bad actuator can mimic a failed turbo, so proper diagnosis is essential.

What's the difference between the pickup and Cab & Chassis turbos?

The HE300VG turbos for pickup and Cab & Chassis models use different housings and mounting connections. They are not interchangeable, so it is critical to select the correct unit for your specific truck.

Do I need custom tuning for a Screamer turbo?

While the Screamer is designed as a drop-in replacement, custom tuning is highly recommended to take full advantage of the increased airflow and optimize engine performance and drivability.

What are the benefits of an Iron Horn non-VGT kit?

Iron Horn kits replace the complex factory VGT with a simpler, more robust fixed-geometry BorgWarner S300/S400 turbo. This enhances reliability and airflow, supporting much higher horsepower levels for competition or heavy performance use.

Can I just replace my turbo actuator?

Yes. If diagnosis confirms the turbo itself is mechanically sound, replacing only the failed electronic actuator is a cost-effective repair. We offer standalone HE300VG actuators for this purpose.

What comes in the Turbo Mounting Kit?

Our Turbo Mounting Kit for the 6.7L Cummins includes all the single-use gaskets, studs, nuts, and O-rings required for a complete and leak-free installation when swapping your turbo.

Is the Screamer turbo emissions compliant?

Emissions legality varies by location. Please check the specific product page for the most current information regarding CARB EO status and emissions compliance for your area.
