BD Diesel Chevy/GM Transmission Knowledge Hub

Built for towing, work, and power. This hub helps you choose the right BD transmission package and understand the upgrades that matter most (durability, cooling capacity, filtration, and high-torque control). The GM page is organized by application buttons (Allison 1000 and 6L80) and build intent daily/light performance, towing/heavy-duty, and higher-power performance. So you can match the build to how the truck is used.

Quick Checklist

  • Confirm your transmission family + year range (ex: Allison 1000 2001–2016, Allison 1000 2004.5–2006, 6L80 2014–2021).
  • Verify 2WD vs 4WD (output/driveline differences).
  • Decide your true goal: daily/light performance, towing/heavy-duty, or higher-power performance (pick the tier that matches your use + HP range).
  • Plan for extra fluid capacity (Deeper pans are part of BD’s standard upgrades).
  • If you tow or run a tune: Choose the right transmission level look at the TowMaster or up (warranty matters).
  • Before install: cooler hot flush/replace, correct fluid, and follow any included instructions/manuals on the product you choose.

How Do I Choose the Right BD Transmission for My Chevy/GM Truck?

Click your application (Allison 1000 or 6L80 + your year range) Pick a tier based on how you use the truck + your horsepower goal (daily/light performance, towing/heavy-duty, or higher-power).

What Chevy/GM Transmissions does BD Offer?

The current line up incudes applications for Allison 1000 (2001–2016), Allison 1000 (2004.5–2006), and 6L80 (2014–2021).

What’s the difference between each build tier?

BD offers 3 build levels based on use + power goals: - RoadMaster (350–450hp): daily driving + light performance - TowMaster (500–600hp): towing/heavy-duty use - TorqueMaster (600–700+hp): higher power / high torque demands

What Should I Choose if I Tow Heavy?

The TowMaster is designed specifically for extra weight and heavy towing requirments. Depending on other upgrades made to the vehicle it never hurts to upgrade to the TorqueMaster for that peace of mind.

What Should I Choose if I’m Tuned or Building for Higher Power?

Use the high-performance section targeting 600–700+hp, and look for packages that include the hard-part upgrades your build needs (ex: billet input options on certain TorqueMaster packages).

I’m Not Sure Which GM Transmission I Have; What Should I Do?

Use your model year, then confirm whether you have an Allison 1000 or 6L80, and match that to the application buttons on the page.
