About This Product

The Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit is purpose-built to address a major flaw in the 6.7L Cummins engine that can result in total engine destruction. The problem lies in the electrical connection to the intake grid heater. When powering the grid heater, 200 amps pass through a small bolt and nut inside the intake and, over time, is known to deteriorate and eventually arc and break off. This nut drops into the engine, leading to extensive damage to the piston, head, and valves. Several solutions are currently on the market addressing this issue, but they are costly upgrades. They drastically reduce the heat available to the engine and typically require tuning, or they don't work well in cold climates. This kit upgrades that flawed electrical circuit by eliminating the problematic bolts and nuts inside the intake while retaining the stock functionality of the heater, and it is cost-effective and easy to install.

It’s a relief to not have to worry about destroying my engine now. I’m 70 and it took me 2 days to install this but I spent some time cleaning the parts. It took quite a bit of time figuring out how to remove some of the connectors.

2010 Laramie 6.7. Grid heater kit worked great. Only issues I had were damn clips and injector lines 5 and 6. Line wrench would have helped under the firewall. Or offset wrenches. I didn’t have but would have cut time down considerably

Install was easy and now i don't have to worry

Awesome

I got the infamous code p2609. I was lucky and parked the truck and ordered the kit with standard shipping. It came in 2 days from the time I ordered it. Install went smoothly with directions I was given and all torque specs were given as well. Awesome kit for the money.

Glad I found this

Bought this product for my 2016 Ram. Everything I needed was included in the package. Very straightforward install. With instructions and videos it could not have been easier. As it turned out, the bolt in my truck was still in very good shape, but I am happy to know that I can rest easy now with the new product in place to remove the possibility of total engine failure. Glad I could find something without spending an arm and a leg for a decent fix. Very happy with my purchase.

Great product

Everything needed to install was included. Actually putting in the kit was easy. Hard part is getting to the grid heater. Turns out my original nut was just fine but at least I don’t have to worry about it anymore.

A cheaper way to fix the grid heater bolt without deleting the grid, but it does suck to install.

This was easy to install and made with quality materials

Top Notch!

Easy installation. All parts are captive, so no worry about parts falling in the intake. Works better than original equipment.

Grid Heater Upgrade Kit

reasonable price, and a much more affordable option than the Banks full kit. Instructions were solid and the fitment of parts was perfect. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking to resolve their grid heater failure points on a 6.7 Cummins.

Ram grid heater fix

Parts are high quality. Instructions are adequate, but some of the instructions are not necessarily in the right order. Some steps are out of sequence but if you are even slightly mechanically inclined you can figure it out.
$200 and an afternoon in the garage is a small price to pay for peace of mind that the grid heater bolt won’t burn off and ruin your engine. Great product.

Good product.

Everything in the kit seems to be of good quality. Unfortunately this problem is something Ram or Cummins should address, but here we are. Install was fairly straight forward, I did it in my driveway with basic tools. Only thing that could improve the kit would be if they included a crush gasket for the EGR crossover pipe. Mine was damaged and I had to order a new one, which extended the completion of this project from one day to four days waiting on a gasket.

What vehicles does this Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit fit?

This kit is designed for 2007-2024 Dodge/Ram 2500/3500 Pick-up and 3500/4500/5500 Cab & Chassis trucks with the 6.7L Cummins engine.

What problem does this upgrade kit solve?

It addresses a flaw in the OEM grid heater where the stud and nut inside the intake can break off, potentially causing severe engine damage to the piston, head, and valves.

Does this kit require engine tuning or modifications for installation?

No, the Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit is designed for easy installation without the need for modifications or tuning.

Will this upgrade kit cause engine codes?

No, this kit is engineered to avoid triggering engine codes P2609 and P0542.

What is included in the Killer Grid Heater Upgrade Kit?

The kit includes replacement installation hardware, gaskets, and special tools necessary for the job.

How long does the installation take?

The estimated installation time for this upgrade is 3 hours.

Does this kit maintain the stock heater's performance?

Yes, it allows for the worry-free use of the stock heater at full power (2400W), unlike some alternatives that drastically reduce heat output.

How does the kit prevent corrosion?

The kit features a tin-plated upper busbar and a zinc-plated lower busbar to prevent corrosion.

What is the 'Killer Grid Heater' problem on the 6.7L Cummins?

The factory intake grid heater uses a stud and nut inside the intake plenum that can loosen or fail after repeated heat cycles and vibration. In severe cases, the nut can enter cylinder #6 and cause catastrophic engine damage to the piston, valves, and cylinder head.

Will this cause check engine lights?

No. The kit is designed to retain normal grid heater operation and does not trigger common grid heater diagnostic trouble codes such as P2609 or P0542.
